India Women seal the ODI series (Social Media)
Sports News: Harmanpreet Kaur's century and Kranti Goud's six-for helped India Women defeat England Women in the final match of the ODI series. The women in blue now have won both the white ball series on this tour to England. The ODI series win followed after a 3-2 victory in the T20Is. Skipper Kaur silenced all her critics with a scintillating knock of 102 off 84 deliveries, helping India to go past 300. Bringing up her 7th ODI ton in just 82 balls, which included 14 fours, Harmanpreet slowly snatched the game away from the visitors.
On a good batting wicket where the aim was to set a target around 280-285, the Indian batters batted exceptionally. This was Harmanpreet's 3rd ODI ton against England.
Coming into bat after India had lost the opener Smriti Mandhana for 45, the skipper never looked tentative. Her confident strokeplay was the most inspiring part about her innings. At 81-2, things could have gone either way. Harmanpreet held one end strongly, stitching an 81-run partnership with Harleen Deol, who then perished for 45. Harmanpreet did not discontinue her aggressive approach and played with positive intent. The batter was then joined by Jemmimah Rodrigues, who played a crucial knock of 50 off 45 balls.
The skipper was already well set on the crease when Rodrigues arrived. Although she did start slow, the right-handed no. 5 batter then batted freely after hitting Charlie Dean for three consecutive boundaries in the 41st over. The duo went on to stitch a 110-run partnership in just 77 balls, charging at the hosts relentlessly. Jemmimah departed after a well-made half-century. She was caught down the leg side off a short ball by Lauren Filer.
The trouble piled on for England after the arrival of Richa Ghosh, who scored a fiery 38 off just 18 balls, smashing two 6s and three 4s, and finished the game on a high for her team.
India started off great, reducing England to 22-2 after the first 10 overs, thanks to a fine bowling display by Kranti Goud. A fightback then followed by the captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, top scoring with 98, and Emma Lamb, who also played a fine knock of 68. Kranti then did not let many runs flow, as she picked up a six-wicket haul, guiding India to a fantastic 13-run win over the hosts.
